Congratulations to Matt Kenseth and owner Jack Roush of the #17 DeWalt Tools Ford for bringing home the rain shortened Daytona 500. Roush had not had winner from his stable in over 23 of racing the 500.
The Conway NASCAR League got off and running for the 2009 season as well. Although a few new racers had some issues logging in, dropped the flag in fine fashion.
Normally I am checking oil in the drip pan after the 500, but behind the stellar piloting of AJ Allmendinger and David Ragan, I managed to get the high score. The newly formulated rules of buckets of beer to the weekly point leader no doubt provided the proper incentive. I have not ran point since leaving the Daytona 500 in 2002.
Following me across the start finish line were O Racing, RP5 Racing, Oiler^ and Tippy Twister, who had a wonderful weekend.
Normally powerful Ford Racing Team Boy Racing, Inc. was unable to capitalize on the Roush win as they has major issues and find themselves near the tail end of the field. WHS Racing, Team Taser, who ran strong in his rookie campaign a year ago, and rookie Chevy Intimidators* spent time in the garage area.
Next week we head out west to California for the Auto Club 500 on Sunday. The green flag is scheduled to drop at 6:15PM. Oh I long for those 1PM starts. The stands were packed for the 500, so we shall see how turnout is out in Fontana.
Have a good week!
