Denny Hamlin Visits Fox & Friends

Joe Gibbs Racing's Denny Hamlin visits FOX & Friends in NYC to promote a charitable event for the March of Dimes.

Week 5 Commentary

It seemed like a fairly uneventful day at Bristol Motor Speedway where tempers often flare and rubbin is racin. Without any significant crackups, if you had the field covered like Kyle Busch you had a big day, and indeed, several of the Conway NASCAR League race teams did just that.

Offshore Gamester led the way with an eye popping 1111 points. Don't get comfortable as 3 racers, Brian Racing*, Cosmo D* and Glynn^, were right on his blue fin tunas tail. Out of nowhere, Punch Drunk again and rounded out the top 5.

Flat Tires Race Team* had a number of blowouts to finish up last for the race. Club BDawg* and, surprisingly, Wiseguys Racing were left in the garage with engine trouble.

The Blue Deuce* has taken command of the league with BAHL falling to second. WTF Racing, Ratatack and Tippy Twister round out the top five. The leader after this weeks race will win segment 1, and the boxes will also change.

Making some big moves toward the front this week were Team Cuda, Diamond Dave, CosmoD*, Punch, Glynn^ and Brian Racing*. Crashing and burning this week were Mama's Boy, Wiseguys Racing, Burke (ouch) Fitz Racing* Charging Aardvarks* (name of the year), Slow Motion, Lisa Las Vegas and 2 or 5 Racing*, after some rather extensive commentary about assuming the point.

This week we run at the mother of all short tracks, Martinsville Speedway, for the Goody's Fast pain Relief 500. I really enjoy Martinsville as every inch of real estate (my gig) is contested (Yes, call me if you need your property taxes contested). The green flag is at approximately 2:16PM.

Beamer Ball Hits Bristol

After the conclusion of the Scotts Turfbuilder 300 Nationwide race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday, some nightime fun will commence as a mix of celebrities and former Bristol stars will compete in a 50 lap late model rubbin is racin charity event.

Ray Evernham is one of the scheduled drivers, but so are college football legends Frank Beamer of Virginia Tech, who will serve as Grand Marshall on Sunday, and former Auburn head coach and Yahoo Sports columnist Terry Bowden. Andy Petree, Brad Daugherty, Philadelphia Eagle placekicker David Akers and MTV's Riki Rachtman are among others particpating.

ESPN2 will have live coverage of this crashfest. I am pulling for Team Bowden, of course.

There is also a Legends Race, which will have the participation of Harry Gant, David Pearson, Junior Johnson, Cale Yarborough and Rusty Wallace will be running.

Visit Bristol Motor Speedway for more details.

An American Revolution

I am not so sure this is the kind of American Revolution we had in mind for young female race fans... PICTURE COURTESY OF THE BLOG "TAKE A REPORT"

But hey, it is The Heartbeat of America!

Week 4 Commentary

The powerful Ford Racing Team of Boy Racing, Inc., home of three Conway NASCAR League championships started the year out poorly, but had it dialed in Atlanta as they had two teams tie for first and a third team come home second while Kurt Busch and his Miller Lite Dodge won in dominating fashion in the Blue Duece.

Former champion Big Boy^ and two time champion Lil Boy^^ tied for first, with Mama's Boy, a former rookie or the year, coming home third. Rookie team Two or Five Race* and Wiseguys Racing rounded out the top five for the week at AMS, which the way they were slipping around out there, you may have thought you were at Darlington. Boy Racing, Wiseguys, Two or Five* and Toga Phil all gained over 30 positions, which you would consider big moves.

Dropping a cylinder or two at Atlanta were Danielle Hall and James Hall while Blue 7^, Fraser Sells Orlando, Diamond Dave and Team Hot Stuff* finished behind the wall dropping 30 or more spots. Ouch!

In a simply astonishing turn of events, BAHL continues to lead even with Bobby Labonte losing an engine (Found On The Road Dead), followed closely by WTF Racing, The Blue Duece, O Racing and The Gas Man.

NASCAR and our race league will take this week off before returning to racin the way it ought to be, at Bristol Motor Speedway, on March 22, 2009. Rubbin is racing, and tempers will flare at Bristol, our first short track run of 2009. The Nationwide Series will be in action this weekend, so you will have racing along with the NCAA basketball conference tournaments. Walk the fence at Bristol via Youtube, and do not throw any objects!

Open Thread Atlanta

Atlanta Motor Speedway, just five hours up the road in Hampton, GA and the fastest track the good ole boys run at, is known for some close finishes, like the one pictured below as the late Dale Earnhardt edges Bobby Labonte in 2000.

There is quite a bit of intrigue as we got here, with the economic crisis hitting anyone and everybody, and in particular General Motors. Some drivers in the Chevrolet camp spoke about the issues, including Jeff Burton, driver of the #31 Caterpillar Chevy.

Bruton Smith, legendary track owner and President of Speedway Motorsports (TRK:NYSE)apparently went off on a tangent as reporters arrived at AMS. He blasted Auto Club and Homestead Speedways, the late starting times of races and President Barack Obama. Read the Orlando Sentinel article here.

The field is set for the Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway with Mark Martin as our polesitter. Carl Edwards was fastest in Happy Hour practice on Saturday. Green flag scheduled to drop at 2:15PM.

Feel free to add your comments below on the Kobalt Tools 500!

Week 3 Commentary

A visit to Sin City was a crapshoot scoring wise for the competitors of the Conway NASCAR League while Kyle Busch thrilled the hometown crowd with another big win.

Finishing in the top five this week were Team Wolf, BMF Lugnuts^, The Blue Duece, Tippy Twister, Two or Five Racing* and Mama's Boy. This was a consecutive top five for BMF.

The big movers in the standings this week were The Blue Duece*, Blood or Tears Racing, Blind Squirrel Racing, Mama's Boy and Team Collin.

Among those who joined Mark Martin behind the wall were Bazil^, Chief Racing, Ed Racing*, Brian Racing* and RP5 Racing, who should know better than to roll on week 3. Additionally, nine other drivers dropped 20 or more spots.

Up front, BAHL is hanging on by one point in front of O Racing. Wolf Racing, Tippy Twister and STF Racing round out the top five, while former champion Oiler^ is the only other driver within 100 points of the lead.

Speaking of Oiler^, we head to his hometown track up in Hampton, GA for the running of the Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The green flag is scheduled to drop at 2:15PM EST.

As we leave Vegas, here are some highlights from the hauler parade they had threre last week via You Tube:

Open Thread Las Vegas

Greg Biffle won the Sams Town 300 Nationwide Race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday in his Citi Financial Ford Fusion. They tore up a ton of racecars yesterday, including two Gibbs and two Childress cars.

That sets the scene for today's race, the Carroll Shelby 427, and the lineup is set with Kyle Busch on the pole.

Should Matt Kenseth win today, that would be the first time ever a racer has won the first three races to start the season. I say he will not win, but who do you like today? Roll the dice by firing out some commentary on today's open thread by posting your raceday comments by clicking comment below this story.

Got to love the AP photo of Biffle crossing the victory stripe. As Punch would say, keep the shiny side up today
