Richmond was an exciting place last Saturday night, and not just because of the door handle to door handle racing. It seems we had a handful of teams pulling some shenanigans in effort to adjust the finishing order to benefit their drivers, while others may have been paid to help an existing team or driver.
NASCAR was far from pleased.
Reportedly, NASCAR dropped the hammer on Micheal Waltrip Racing, fining them $300,000 with one of their drivers, Martin Truex, Jr., who had inched into the Chase, having been removed from Chase competition. Other team members were docked points.
Sponsors were reported to have been reconsidering their partnerships with MWR.
Ryan Newman, who appeared set to win the race prior to MWR driver Clint Bowyer having "intentionally"spinning out, was granted a position in the Chase by NASCAR. Joey Logano may have help by David Gilliland per radio conversation.
Jeff Gordon, who was seemingly in due to points before the orchestrated mishaps, was added to the Chase later in the week.
Other issues from the race, including Carl Edwards jumping the restart after the last caution, will be addressed in this morning drivers meeting.
2012 Spring Cup Champion Brad Keselowski failed to make the 2013 Chase.
Meanwhile, The Blue Deuce won the week, followed by Smoke's Fury, Ratattack Racing, Glynn and The Gas Man.
There were very few major changes in standings. Burke and The Blue Deuce made gains, while only BMF Lugnuts lost major ground.
Glynn has taken the lead, with 88AMPS, Man In Black Racing, Ricky Racer and Smoke's Fury rounding out the top five.
We begin The Chase in Chicago at Chicagoland Speedway as we run the GEICO 400. Joey Logano in our polesitter. Kasey Kahne was fastest in Happy Hour practice.
The green flag flies at 2:16PM.
